Initiative Description: The traffic lights (TL) scheme: Red group (most persistant absentess-less than 70% attendance), blue group (less serious cases, typically erratic and inconsistent attendance- 71-84%), yellow group (occasional absences), green group (regular attenders). The aim of the scheme is to monitor attendance of all students within a school. Students are moved between groups accordingly. The success of the TL scheme is dependent on the participation of every member of school staff.

Study Results: Overall attendance within participating schools significantly improved by approximately 8%.
