Initiative Description: A meta-analysis was undertaken, including 66 studies, to determine the relationship between father involvement and the educational outcomes of urban school children. For the purposes of this study, father involvement was defined as paternal participation in the life of the child by someone who was the biological male parent of the youth in a legally recognized relationship.

Study Results: The results indicate that the association between father involvement and the educational outcomes of youth overall is significant statistically. The positive effects of father involvement held for both white and minority children.
