Initiative Description: School-Based Obesity Prevention Program in a Hispanic Community: Choosing Healthy and Active Lifestyles for Kids/Healthy Schools Healthy Families. CHALK’s main strategy is a school-wide social marketing campaign that spreads healthy messages and teaches methods to achieve health goals to all children in the schools (grades K-5), their teachers/staff, and families. The social marketing utilizes the “8 healthy habits of kids”17andincludes regular activities within and around the school buildings as well as outreach activities including newsletters and advertisements posted throughout the community
Study Results: Students and school staff participating in the program reported improved nutrition knowledge and behavior, and school staff reported improved self-efficacy for physical activity
