Initiative Description: The Responsive Classroom approach, an instructional delivery and social-emotional learning intervention designed to provide teachers with skill needed to create caring, well-managed classroom environments that are conducive to learning, composed of 7 principles and 10 practices to integrate social learning into the classroom(e.g., morning meeting, rule creation, academic choice, interactive modeling, positive teacher language, logical consequences, guided discovery, classroom organization, working with families, & collaborative problem solving), results in higher quality instructional practices and increased student learning.
Study Results: Teachers trained in RC who used more RC practices showed higher use of standards-based mathematics teaching practices, and higher use of standards-based mathematics teaching practices related to greater improvements in math achievement.
