Initiative Description: Teachers received a modified version of the Youth Mental Health First Aid course. covered departmental policy on mental health issues, common mental disorders in adolescents (depressive and anxiety disorders, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, and non-suicidal self-injury) and how to apply the mental health action plan to help students (or specific cases).
Study Results: The training increased teachers’ knowledge, changed beliefs about treatment to be more like those of mental health professionals, reduced some aspects of stigma, and increased confidence in providing help to students and colleagues.
