Initiative Description: A counselor-led comprehensive developmental guidance unit approach on the behavior, school attitudes, and level of informational awareness of ninth-grade students. Six 45-minute developmental guidance unit sessions were delivered to the students over a period of approximately 2 months from early October through mid-November, with topics derived from the needs assessment. Each session had a main focus that related to the purpose and goals of the guidance unit. The first activity was counselor-led, involving the whole class, while the second involved small-group activities with specific tasks
Study Results: Significant differences in student ratings on behavior, attitude, and information existed between both groups of participants and that these ratings favored students who received the intervention. Significant differences in teacher ratings of students on attitude and information also existed.
