Class-Wide Function-Related Intervention Team (CW-FIT) program.
Initiative Description: A group contingency intervention addressing the on-task and disruptive behavior of students with or at risk for emotional behavior disorders (EBD). Students were randomly assigned to the intervention group classes (n=176) or comparison classes (n=148). Teachers attended a 2 hour training workshop on intervention procedures. 3-5 days were spend teaching each skill (how to get the teacher’s attention, following directions the first time, ignoring inappropriate behavior). Students were divided into teams and points were awarded for modeling behaviors correctly. Rewards were provided for teams meeting the point total at the end of the session. Self-management procedures were covered in booster sessions which consisted of 30 minute small-group meetings. Target students at risk for EBD increased engagement and decreased levels of disruptive behaviors during the CW-FIT intervention.
Study results: Improved classroom engagement and reduced disruptive behaviors.
