Signs of Suicide (SOS) Prevention program

Initiative Description: Signs of Suicide (SOS) prevention program. It incorporates 2 prominent suicide prevention strategies into a single program by combining curricula to raise awareness of suicide and its related issues with a brief screening for depression and other risk factors associated with suicidal behavior. Youths are taught to recognize the signs of suicide and depression in themselves and in others, and they are taught the specific action steps necessary for responding to those signs.

Study Results: Program implementation significantly lower rates of suicide attempts and greater knowledge and more adaptive attitudes about depression and suicide were observed among students in the intervention group.
