Initiative Description: The aim of this study was to describe the current state of research on school refusal, differentiating between the findings and progress made in Spain from those achieved in the international field.
Study Results: Most of the works found are case studies that attend to children and adolescents with school phobia or group intervention programs to prevent absenteeism. Most research is based on cognitive behavioral therapy, incorporating two essential strategies: systematic desensitization or gradual exposure to the school setting and contingency management.
