Staying Healthy-Asthma Responsible and Prepared™ (SHARP)
Initiative Description:mThe academic asthma education and counseling Staying Healthy-Asthma Responsible and Prepared™ (SHARP). The program enhances skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic by including spelling words, math problems, reading and writing assignments, demonstrations, and learning activities from biology, psychology, and sociology. Counseling aspects encourage students to share their thoughts and feelings about what it is like for them to live with asthma. The acceptance of the asthma model is used to help students process their thoughts and feelings through the use of creative artistic and written expressions, small group discussion, and guided role-playing
Study Results: Improved psychological acceptance of asthma & improved school connectedness (to peers & teachers).
