Initiative Description: The MHCH School Nurse Program embraces the fact that not all schools are identical and the nurses are encouraged to design programs that meet the individual needs of their specific school: e.g. food garden, occupational/speech therapy, Physical Activity.

Study Results: The nurse offers consistency and serves as the case manager for the health care needs of the students. When referrals were initiated previously, there was a sporadic follow-up. The nurse not only provides professional assessment skills but is there to oversee care as the student progresses from one grade to the next.
